What is Hubz?

Hubz is a superior web-based instant messaging solution, unrestricted by buddy-lists. The Hubz Java-based interactive technology literally turns every web page into an Internet walkie-talkie. Hubz allows users to see who is sharing a page with them and send anyone on that site an instant message. Because Hubz enables interaction between visitors on any page of your site, it takes traditional chat and IM one step further by allowing visitors to enjoy real-time interaction.

I don’t have my own server, how do I run Hubz off of my site?

Opening a Hubz Managed Hosting account is the easiest way to add population awareness and instant messaging services to your web site while ensuring the highest degree of customer support and hands-off peace of mind. A chat hosting account allows you to fully benefit from the traffic-building appeal of Hubz without the headaches and hassles commonly associated with running and maintaining traditional Internet servers.

A Hubz Hosting Account integrates seamlessly into your current web site (no matter where it is hosted). In fact, to the rest of the world, it looks like you’re running your own dedicated server. Our URL never appears in your visitor’s browser window! All you have to do is insert a snippet of HTML code on your web pages.

Does Hubz support firewalls? (Privacy)

All Hubz licenses and hosting plans allow you to customize the ports used, providing your users access through firewalls. Additionally, Hubz offers HTTP Tunneling functionality on select server licenses. This feature allows your chatters to use Hubz from behind protective proxy servers and firewalls.

How is Hubz different from Groopz?

Hubz is focused on visitor-to-visitor interaction while Groopz is a sales tool focused on Merchant-to-visitor support and interaction. Hubz enables your site visitors to see each other and initiate chat with those other visitors if so desired. Hubz is a community- building tool used to drive topic-focused interaction on your site. It is not used as a sales tool for e-merchants.

Would my site users need plug-ins to use Hubz?

No. There is nothing to download, no plug-ins to install. Visitors need only show up on your site to enjoy the instant awareness and interaction provided by Hubz.

How long does it take to set up my Hubz account?

All Hubz accounts are generally processed and set-up within 24-hours.

How is billing handled?

This depends upon whether you purchase a hosting plan or a server license. If you are a hosting customer, you will be automatically billed for your service at the start of each quarter or year (depending upon the payment option you choose). If you are purchasing a license, it is a one-time payment; however you will be automatically billed for the renewal of your Annual Service Plan (ASP) each year.

How many users can Hubz support?

The number of users that Hubz can support is based upon the Hubz package that is purchased. There are a variety of packages that are offered in an effort to allow sites of all sizes to benefit from the Hubz technology in the most economical way possible. From 100 users to unlimited users, Digi-Net has a Hubz package that is right for you!

Can I upgrade my Hubz account when new versions of Hubz are released?

All feature upgrades and fixes to Hubz are free of charge to all hosting clients in good standing. Major enhancements and new features are available to clients free of charge if they have purchased the Annual Service Plan for their Hubz license. Clients who have not purchased this option may obtain upgrades for an additional fee. This fee is calculated by determining the difference in the purchased price and the current list price of the upgrade desired. Once the difference is determined, add twenty percent (20%). This will give you the upgrade cost.

How often are upgrades made available?

Hubz is upgraded several times a year to not only address any browser compatibility issues that may arise as web browsers and operating systems evolve, but also to enhance the product’s performance and feature set.

Are there any reseller opportunities available with Hubz?

Members of Digi-Net’s Partner Plus Program™ have to ability to resell any of Digi-Net’s products, including Hubz. Digi-Net Partners use a convenient Web-based Ordering System to place orders at any time, from anywhere. Partners receive preferred pricing which allows them to customize their pricing to meet individual client's needs, while maintaining the ability to retain a substantial profit.

What platforms does Hubz work on?

Because of its Java foundation, Hubz is fully compatible with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, Solaris, Linux, and Unix. On the customer side, Java pays off again by working equally well in both Netscape®, AOL, and Internet Explorer®.

What Technical Support options are available?

We offer a range of options to resolve any Hubz Support issues you may have as quickly and efficiently as possible. The purchase of an Annual Service Plan allows for unlimited technical support via e-mail and telephone, as well as installation assistance, and all software updates for one year. Telephone technical assistance is available only to those customers who have purchased the Annual Service Plan (ASP). Documentation is available on-line at http://www.hubz.com/hubz_documentation/. Or simply, click on the “Chat Live” button at http://www.hubz.com during regular business hours and receive immediate assistance via chat.

What is a channel?

While viewing who is online with you at any given point, you will be shown user name, channel, time on site, etc. The channel is simply the page that the visitor is on or the link within the page that the visitor is on.

How many people are allowed to interact with each other within Hubz?

Hubz allows for one on one interaction between site visitors. A web site visitor may have as many Hubz IM sessions open at a given time as he/she wishes. Additionally, Hubz was built to ensure full integration with DigiChat. If at any time your visitors want to join in a group chat room, they can instantly jump to your DigiChat-enabled chat room and start interacting in a group chat environment. Visitor profiles and member information will be automatically transferred with them when they go back and forth between Hubz and DigiChat.

Is Hubz customizable?

Hubz offers a built-in support for "skins" or interface schemes that affect the look and feel of the Graphical User Interface (GUI). The site administrator may select from a standard package of skins or they may customize their own to more precisely match the graphical aspects of their web pages. This capability not only allows for aesthetic customization of Hubz, but also facilitates multilingual usage. By applying language-specific skins that gives all interface components, from buttons to tabs to dialogs, you permit international web venues to offer interaction in a more natural setting for their visitors.

Are there administrative options available within Hubz?

Yes. The Hubz Admin applet gives you a real-time, live snapshot of “whooz online”, how long they have been there and what page they are currently viewing. Not only does this give you a realistic view of site traffic, but helps to guide you in determining what content is drawing the most attention from your visitors.

The Hubz Admin also allows you the additional capabilities of viewing and editing visitor profile information, pushing content into the visitor’s browser window and disciplining abusive or troublesome site citizens. A Hubz administrator can "kick" and "ban" troublesome users. With larger volume sites where multiple admins may be necessary, the Hubz Admin interface provides not only an awareness of visitors, but also other administrators who may be on site.

What happens if my site reaches maximum capacity of Hubz users?

If the number of site visitors wanting to use Hubz exceeds the number of user chat sessions purchased, all visitors over the purchase agreement amount will be greeted with a pop-up dialog box that says “The Site Has Reached Maximum Capacity.” Visitors will not be shown this box until they have attempted to log-in, and it will not interfere with their ability to browse the rest of the site normally.
